Excellent article Hillary. I just started Chapter 6 of "Out and Back" on my run yesterday, listening for the third time on Audible!

Helpful insight into your mentality during races and some excellent thoughts. I was a ball of nerves at my one of my recent races and had keep reminding myself, "you belong here just as much as everyone else" and "enjoy the journey to the finish." Mantras definitely help with a reset.

I have a go-to mantra too. It's Strong Like Ox, which I came up with during a run once thinking about how slow I run sometimes, SLO, and how can I flip the script on that?

Congratulations on making your last lap your best lap! When things get tough, here's what I remind myself: "You *get* to do this."

Congrats on the win and great effort!

When the going gets rough for me, these tend to help -

"I can (and have) done hard things."

"If it were easy, anyone would do it."

"It's supposed to be hard."
